About Mini Split For Home

Mini Split For Home exists because mini split shopping runs on two kinds of fog: marketing terms that blur real technical distinctions ("pre-charged" above all), and prices that change depending on which page of which retailer you land on. We clear both.

We verify every price first-hand. Each system in our dataset was read on a manufacturer or retailer product page — the price, the specs, and the source URL are recorded together in our open dataset at /data/minisplits.json. If we could not verify a USD price, the system is listed with no price and no buy link rather than an estimate. At launch that is 43 verified systems, 38 with verified USD prices.

We publish specs the way they were stated — or not at all. When a retailer page says "SEER" without the SEER2 label, or contradicts itself between the title and the spec table, the system carries no efficiency figure here until it's resolved. When a product page contradicts itself on coverage, we print neither number. The flags are in the dataset's notes, in plain language.

We define "DIY" strictly. A system earns our DIY label only if its line set is factory pre-charged with quick-connect fittings — no vacuum pump, no gauges, no flaring. A pre-charged condenser with a standard flare line set does not qualify, whatever the marketing says. This one definition is the site's reason to exist; our DIY vs professional install guide explains it in full.

We publish our data. The full dataset — prices, specs, heating ratings, source URLs, buy links — is open at /data/minisplits.json, free for anyone, human or machine, to use with attribution. See For Agents.

How we make money: some links on this site are affiliate links (see our disclosure). Affiliate status never changes a spec, a flag, or a ranking computed from the data — the cheapest system in a table is the cheapest whether or not it pays us.
